The Durninger Factory

Sample Products from Durninger Factory

Abraham Durninger was a salesman from Strassburg whom Zinzendorf brought to the Lord and invited, in 1747, to come to Herrnhut. He built a factory and industrial complex to manufacture shoes, cotton and canvas products, and wood products (doors, lecterns, chairs, tables, crosses, order-of-service boards) all of high quality. Not only were many jobs provided, including jobs for the handicapped, but money was raised to support many missionaries. (Durninger was a money-making full timer!) Displayed here is a sample of the products turned out by this factory.
